Overtime Policy: Guiding Principles for Decision-Making

Organizations can use this policy to ensure compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) or other pertinent state or local laws, rules and regulations governing overtime worked.

According to this policy, when business requirements necessitate work beyond regular working hours, employees may be required to work overtime. Whenever possible, the company should give employees advance notice of overtime requirements. In addition, overtime compensation is paid to all non-exempt employees at the appropriate rates and in accordance with federal and state laws and must have advance authorization of the employee’s supervisor.
